84-year-old Canadian singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot, who was regarded as a legend, may you rest in peace.

A folk musician named Gordon Lightfoot passed away at 84 years old. One of Canada’s best-known artists, he was regarded as such.

With singles like “If You Could Read My Mind” and “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald,” as well as albums that sold multiple platinum records, Lightfoot experienced his greatest level of international success in the 1970s.

According to a post on his Facebook page, Lightfoot passed away on Monday night at a Toronto hospital. There was no more information provided.

On November 17, 1938, Lightfoot was born in Ontario, Canada. He started out as a performer before establishing himself as a songwriter in the 1960s when artists like Marty Robbins and Peter, Paul, and Mary began using his songs. In 1966, he released his first album, Lightfoot!, catapulting him to musical stardom.

He became a folk music superstar in the 1970s as a result of songs like “If You Could Read My Mind,” “Sundown,” “Carefree Highway,” and “Rainy Day People”.

In his home country of Canada, where he was hailed as “Canada’s Bard,” a national hero, and one of the nation’s greatest songwriters of all time, Lightfoot was incredibly well-liked.

He finds inspiration in Canadian history for several of his songs, such as “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald” and “Canadian Railroad Trilogy”.
