An unassuming one-hour date in London marked the start of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s romance.
The two quickly began a serious relationship, and in 2018 they got married in St. Windsor’s St. George’s Chapel. Many people at the time thought the couple would eventually lead the British Royal Family. Of course, by this point, everyone is aware of how inaccurate those predictions were.
When Harry and Meghan first started dating in 2016, the media was quick to run articles about them. Soon, Buckingham Palace became aware that they needed to step in somehow.
One person, however, was severely harmed by the Palace’s actions in revealing Harry and Meghan’s relationship to the public. Two royal authorities claim that the shocking news left then-Prince Charles feeling “crushed.”.
There hasn’t been any peace or privacy in Harry and Meghan’s relationship. The couple has been firmly in the public eye ever since the paparazzi learned they were dating.
Of course, the media had a hand in it, but Harry and Meghan have been honest about their experience. Interviews, podcasts, a Netflix documentary series, and Harry’s autobiography, Spare, have all allowed them to be open with the public.
How Harry and Meghan first met.
As is customary, Harry and Meghan’s relationship started out as an unbroken stretch of happiness. There have been many ups and downs even though they have since built a wonderful family of four.
They appear to have kept things very private at the start of their relationship. King Charles was unaware of it even at the time.
Harry and Meghan’s Netflix documentary series premiered in December of last year. Through that, the Prince detailed the full history of how the couple met, revealing that Meghan initially caught his attention on Instagram when she appeared in a video that belonged to a mutual friend.
Meghan wore a filter in that video that gave her dog ears. Harry’s interest was apparently aroused by it.
In the documentary, Harry said, “I was like, who is that?”.
After that, Meghan and Harry met through a mutual friend, and the rest is history, as they say.
The time Meghan and Harry decided to meet was in 2016 while Meghan was in London for the Wimbledon tennis tournament.
Prior to their first date, Harry “freaked out.
Despite the fact that they could have started off better, they scheduled a dinner. The actress was forced to wait for her date for 30 minutes because Harry was late for their meeting at the Soho House in London.
The series featured Meghan saying, “I couldn’t understand why he would be late.”. Yet he persisted in texting. He said, “I’m in traffic”.

Harry added, “I was freaking out and I was in a panic.”.
“I was sweating like crazy”.
Meghan clarified that she didn’t know Harry and was unsure if he was frequently late.
“Oh, is this what he does?
I understood.

Harry intervened, asking, “What’s that supposed to mean?”.
Meghan continued, “Like you’re one of those guys with so much ego that any girl would sit waiting for you for a half-hour.”.
“I just didn’t care about that”.
But as soon as Harry entered the eatery, Meghan realized it wasn’t a part of any strategy or plan.
Harry remembered, “I was a hot, sweaty, red ball of mess.”.
You were just so sweet, Meghan said. “You were genuinely ashamed and late. ”.
The initial meeting took place for about an hour, and Meghan described it as “refreshingly fun.”. Interestingly, Meghan was five minutes late when the couple reconnected the following day.
“I believe she is the one.”.
Harry remembered, “I said, ‘You can be as late as you want because I ain’t moving.
“That’s when it just hit me like, ‘Wow, this woman is amazing,'” he continued. She fulfills every requirement I have. ”.
When Harry and Meghan started dating, he was ecstatic.
The couple’s documentary featured a friend who spoke about the Prince’s joy and excitement.
The buddy remembered Harry saying, “Guys, I met a girl.”. I believe she is the one even though we have only recently met”.
Meanwhile, Meghan talked about how she and Harry had a unique connection from the start. Despite the fact that their relationship began as a long-distance one and was kept a secret from the public, it never stopped them.
“We communicated exclusively via text and FaceTime and spoke for hours. It felt exciting, but not in the way that one might anticipate,” Meghan said. It was merely carefree and simple. ”.
Harry and Meghan were wed in a lavish wedding ceremony on May 19, 2018, at St. Charles Chapel. All were present, with the exception of Thomas Markle, Meghan’s father (the father-daughter relationship had already soured by this point).
On their wedding day, few would have imagined it, but Harry and Meghan started criticizing the royal family a year after they left. Not the least of which was during the infamous Oprah Winfrey interview, where Meghan claimed she had been mistreated and even said the Royal Family had not assisted her when she was having mental health issues.
When Harry and Meghan got married, it appeared to both royal family members and fans that they would secure the firm’s future alongside William and Kate. However, only a few years later, the Duke and Duchess made the decision to leave everything behind and lead a completely different life in the US.
Following the announcement of Harry & Meghan’s relationship, King Charles was “crushed.”.
The royals are, by all accounts, typically very well informed about events occurring within the family. This is partly due to the fact that they are related, but it is also due to the fact that it is crucial for them to be able to support one another in times of crisis in case of scandal or public controversy.
Family members’ relationships and romantic interests are included in this, which is important because they can influence how the public perceives the Firm as a whole.
Senior Royal Family members have in the past labeled certain relationships as “bad.”. The relationships in question have, nevertheless, always been public and well known. However, it is said that, at least in relation to King Charles, that wasn’t the case with Harry and Meghan’s relationship.

When King Charles and his staff at Clarence House learned about Harry’s unexpected new girlfriend, they were reportedly “crushed.”. Interestingly, though, this was more out of Charles’s concern that it would take attention away from his royal duties than because Harry was his son.
At the time, the Prince of Wales was getting ready to travel to the Middle East on a delicate mission.
In the book, Scobie and Durand stated that “it was a crucial moment that had been in the making for months.”.
“Coverage of Prince Charles’s tour of the Gulf would all but vanish if Kensington Palace issued a statement denouncing the media and, in the same breath, confirming Harry’s new girlfriend. ”.
The timing left King Charles feeling “disappointed.”.
The Clarence House team, which had spent months organizing Prince Charles’ tour in the hopes that it would receive extensive coverage, was devastated, the royal authors continued. ”.
Scobie and Durand also asserted that although King Charles was “disappointed” with the timing of the announcement, he “understood” the need for the couple to announce their relationship.
According to the authors of Finding Freedom: Harry and Meghan and the Making of the Modern Royal Family, Harry’s dad “understood that the situation with Meghan had reached a tipping point.”.
Harry was quick to lash out at those who cast doubt on their loving relationship, even though he and Meghan were overjoyed about it. Even more allegedly, he opted to sever ties with one of his friends at this time because the person in question was allegedly “gossiping about Meghan.”. ”.
It didn’t take long before several members of the public made the decision to disparage Meghan. The wave of “abuse and harassment” the then-actress had experienced even prompted Buckingham Palace to issue a statement on Harry’s behalf.
Like William and Kate’s relationship, Harry and Meghan’s relationship was heavily influenced by media attention.
In fact, Meghan revealed in an ITV interview from 2019 that some of her friends had even advised her against getting married to Harry because of the media attention she would soon be subjected to.
“I never imagined that this would be so simple.”.

No one, in my opinion, can comprehend that. In all honesty, I had no idea, which is probably hard for you to comprehend, but when I first met Harry, my friends were so happy, and my US friends were happy because I was happy,” Meghan said.

We sincerely hope Meghan Markle, Prince Harry, and the rest of the Royal Family can make amends. Of course, few today can hope to provide an answer to the question of whether or not that’s possible, and more importantly, if they even want to.
