It’s no secret that cancer is a formidable foe, but what if the first indication of the illness was something as seemingly unimportant as a burp? That was the case for a 24-year-old woman who had been regularly burping for weeks prior to learning that her symptoms were signs of stage 3 cancer.
In 2021, when Bailey McBreen was a kind-hearted Florida nurse, she received the news that would forever alter her life.
Burping ten times a day wasn’t something she initially thought much about, but it was a sign of much worse things to come. She was later diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer. She initially didn’t notice the burping, but it was her body’s way of alerting her to a problem.
The 24-year-old was aware enough to notice that something was amiss despite leading an active and healthy lifestyle that frequently involved going to the gym. Being tuned into her body, she quickly realized that her constant burping was not a typical symptom. For at least 14 months, she had consistently worked out five to six times per week.
The first sign that something was wrong, though I didn’t know it at the time, was when I started to burp a lot. I would have five to ten burps per day. This was something I wasn’t used to. Being that I had never burped before, I realized how odd that was. However, I gave it absolutely no thought.
That might be connected to a disease that is so terrible?
Unaware, I say.
Throughout her battle with cancer, Bailey faced numerous difficulties. Her stage 3 colon cancer is being treated with chemotherapy after an urgent procedure she had in January. Her therapy is anticipated to last until the end of August. She had begun to sneeze the year before, but at first she had dismissed it as unimportant.
Sadly, her doctors initially misdiagnosed her burping symptom as anxiety when it was actually acid reflux. Her symptoms, such as a decreased appetite and excruciating pain, worsened over time.
Bailey, a qualified nurse, had the impression that something was interfering with the normal operation of her internal organs. She had a growing colon tumor, which a CT scan proved to be true.
When Bailey was 24 years old, she was horrified to discover that she had stage 3 colon cancer. She didn’t realize that oblique symptoms could point to such a serious condition, like many others did.
“I could never have imagined that any obscure symptom I had could be indicative of stage three colon cancer,” Bailey said in an interview with NeedToKnow .
She remembered in her own words, “I remember the first thing I could say was, ‘I am not ready to die. There are only two cases of colon cancer in young adults per 100,000 people each year, which is a very low incidence.
“I had the impression that my body was absent.
As I sat in the room’s corner, I thought I was getting a diagnosis. My heart rate increased as time seemed to slow down. At the time, I was utterly shocked ”.
Bailey found the tumor in the transverse colon, which is below other abdominal organs.
The severity of her cancer symptoms made therapy more challenging in this setting.
The gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), a painful condition in which stomach acid rushes back into the esophagus and causes heartburn and other unpleasant symptoms, was caused by the tumor, according to Bailey.
The tumor completely blocked Bailey’s bowels, which made it challenging for her to urinate and extremely painful for her. As her tumor gradually blocked off her entire bowel, she claimed that GERD was a symptom in her case. Because my food wasn’t completely digested and “got stuck” above my tumor, it caused reflux and burping.
My doctor informed me that even though frequent burping isn’t a typical symptom of colon cancer, it was probably where my symptoms began.
Since receiving her diagnosis, Bailey McBreen has shown extraordinary tenacity and tenacity.
Though receiving a cancer diagnosis might shock and terrify her, she has decided to fight the illness. This fearless woman hopes to use her knowledge to inform others about the dangers involved with disrepair symptoms.
The woman said, “I won’t let this illness rule my life.”. I’m fighting this illness with everything I’ve got”.
All of my cosmetics, cleaning products, and cookware are nontoxic, and I’ve switched to a completely toxic-free lifestyle.
She declared.
“Cancer doesn’t care about who you are”.
Even though everything else seems to be normal, you need to address everything you are unfamiliar with. I didn’t think much about my burping because it was something that happened “normally.”. It’s crucial to pay attention to your body.
Beyond its $75,000 target, Bailey’s GoFundMe campaign has already raised more than $72,000.
