A tribute to his son and a song about parenting, “Take You With Me” is one of the 18 songs on Luke Combs’ new album Gettin’ Old.
The song, which Combs co-wrote with Rob Williford and James McNair, is a heartfelt ballad in which the singer thinks about his son Tex Lawrence and the life lessons he learned while on the road.
In the first verse, Combs remembers, “Daddy, what’s that mean, that little turtle and a rabbit?/ He sat me in that seat, showed me the wheel and how to grab it/ He said, “I’ll work the pedals if you climb up on my knee/ I’ll take you with me. ”.
Throughout the song, the singer reflects on other special father-son memories he has, all of which are inspired by a strong desire to relive those priceless moments.
Combs sings the following line in the chorus: “If it were up to me, we’d do everything together / And when you’re young like that, you think those days last forever / Didn’t know back then how much those words would mean / “I’ll take you with me. ”.
Combs and his wife Nicole announced the birth of their second child on March 20. He also provided fans with a sneak preview of “Take You With Me” in that unanticipated announcement post. Growing Older is “about the stage of life I’m at right now,” according to Combs. ”. “I’m sure many of us are going through it, have already gone through it, or will do so,”. The author continues, “It’s about growing up, appreciating where life is now while missing how it used to be, continuing to fall in love with the one you love and loving them no matter what, living in the now but still wondering how much time you have left, family, friends, being appreciative, and leaving a legacy.
This coming Saturday (March 25), Combs’ highly anticipated World Tour will begin. Arlington, Texas will serve as the starting point for the 35-city tour, which will also stop in Australia, New Zealand, Sweden, Germany, and France. Combs’ final performance of this tour will take place in London on October 19.
