Finding out you’re going to have children for the first time can cause a mixture of excitement and trepidation. The majority of mothers prefer to have some sort of birth plan or idea of how they want to deliver their child. Nicole Ziesemer opted for a drug-free home birth because she wanted to take a more natural approach. As they prepared for the birth of their child, she had Matthew’s support.

Nicole went into labor at 36 weeks, which caused the Michigan couple both anxiety and excitement. She had to give birth in a hospital though because the baby was due early and she would need medical care. Nicole had a long and difficult birth, so the easiest challenge they would encounter that evening would be navigating through a lot of snow.

Nicole’s plans for a more natural birth would have to be abandoned, according to Matthew, given how much she was struggling. He stated, “Really got contractions going.”.
I talked to a lot of people and Nicole and we decided to start a small dose of pitocin; well, this really got contractions going and got her dilated to a 10.
