A debris field was discovered at the ocean’s bottom, close to the Titanic wreck site, according to the Coast Guard, which could be a significant development in the search for the missing submersible.
The Coast Guard stated that they are “evaluating the information” in a tweet. The OceanGate Titan, a submersible with five people on board, has been missing for days, but it is not yet entirely clear if the debris is connected to it.
The Coast Guard also announced that they would be holding another press conference to go over their findings at 3:00 PM EST.
Although there has been no official confirmation, Sky News reports that a friend of two of the men who are still missing on board claimed the debris was from the missing vehicle and was “a landing frame and a rear cover from the submersible.”.
The update comes on a day that is crucial in the hunt for the missing submersible because, if it were still intact and working, the vehicle’s oxygen supply is thought to have run out this morning.
British businessman Hamish Harding, OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush, French explorer Paul-Henry Nargeolet, Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood, and his teenage son Sulaiman have been named as the submersible’s passengers.

For an eight-day expedition to the RMS Titanic’s wreck, the passengers paid a total of $250,000. Safety issues with the operation had previously been brought up.
After losing contact and failing to surface as expected, the submersible was reported missing. Its disappearance’s circumstances are still unknown. There was only 96 hours of oxygen left on board, so a search and rescue operation was launched right away.
