The Oscar-winning James Bond actress is battling macular degeneration.
Judi Dench talked about how her illustrious acting career has been affected by the diagnosis of macular degeneration, which impairs her eyesight, in a rare new interview.
In an interview with The Mirror’s Sunday magazine Notebook, the English actress, 88, discussed her health problems in detail and clarified whether or not they would make her have to give up acting.
Fortunately, Dame Judi Dench has stated that despite the fact that her vision is failing, she still plans to work “as much as I can.”.
I mean I can’t see on a set anymore, she remarked. And I’m too dim to read. The result is that I hardly notice anything. But you’re already prepared for it. Get on.
It’s difficult for me if a segment is even a little bit long. I have yet to determine how. mainly because a large number of my friends are willing to teach me the script. I have a photographic memory, though.
The Academy Award-winning actress revealed in 2012 that she had macular degeneration, which causes one eye to become “dry,” resulting in blurry center vision, and the other to become “wet,” resulting in blind areas.
Dame Judi says she has no plans to retire anytime soon.
It’s the worst shock to the system, continued Dench. Ghastly. It is terrible to be so reliant on others.
At a BBC Esio Trot screening in 2014, just a few months before turning 80, the seasoned actress reaffirmed her commitment to working well into her golden years. Hearing anything different did not interest her.
The actress revealed that she had macular degeneration in 2012.
I don’t want to be told that I’m too old to do something, she continued, adding, “I want to see for myself whether I can’t do it rather than being told that you might have a fall or you can’t learn your lines. I beg your indulgence. Try it out together.
She continued, “Age is just a number. You were compelled to perform it. I find it extremely annoying when people ask me when I’m going to retire. Tell me your age, or isn’t it time you just sat back and relaxed.
For more than 60 years (seen here in 1957), Dench has worked as a professional actor.
“For some reason, I never experienced genuine sadness until I was 40 years old. I went through a severe emotional collapse when I turned 40, but I bounced back quickly. According to an old saying, you are only as old as you feel. It has something to do with the inside and is unrelated to age. The motor, that is.
