Mother and wife Savannah Phillips have two children together. I’m neither the smallest nor the largest person on the airplane when I’m flying, she continues”.
Phillips claimed in a Facebook post that she tries “to sit in a row where I don’t have to sit next to anyone” because she doesn’t want anyone to feel uncomfortable because they have to sit next to her ”.
In 2018, Phillips’ seat on a flight to Chicago was not available. When she arrived at the gate, however, she was given a chair. She had a window seat, so the self-described comic sitting next to her got up when the plane took off to get to her. She saw him writing an offensive text about Phillips when he sat back down. He produced his phone a short while later.
According to Phillips, the man seated next to her “took out his phone (with a large font and the screen brightness turned up. ). He started texting someone while his phone was only about 12 inches away from her face, lamenting the fact that he was seated next to “a smelly fatty. ”. Phillips turned to the window and began to cry.
The texts were available to people besides Phillips. As he read the text, fellow traveler Chase Irwin, who was sitting nearby, observed Phillips’ response. He decided to save her at that point.
Someone taps the guy’s shoulder behind us and says, “Hey- I need to talk to you,” according to Phillips. The person sitting across from me removes his headphones.
We’re switching seats, someone says behind us. Now. “Okay, why?” a person sitting next to me questioned. And I overhear someone say, “I’m not putting up with you texting about her”.
Philips and Irwin switched seats as Irwin attempted to console Philips. He asked if I had read the texts, and I said yes. He gave me the reassurance that everything would be fine and gave me advice on how to keep that man from getting to me.
For the remainder of the flight, they discussed their families, children, and jobs.
Phillips posted the account on Facebook to highlight Irwin’s kindness. The place to find him is News Channel 5.
