After 50+ years of doing his own stunts in movies, Tom Selleck opens up about his health challenges

Hollywood is a place where dreams come true, but generally only a few people manage to get there and stay there, except for the most talented and lucky.

Not many celebrities can boast successful careers in the entertainment industry, but luckily Tom Selleck is one of the stars who has been on television for a very long time. His big break as an artist came in 1985 when he landed the lead role of Thomas Magnum in “Magnum,” for which he was nominated for and won five Emmy Awards.

Nevertheless, before he became famous, he played bit parts in movies and TV shows, appeared in numerous commercials, and even appeared in The Dating Game several times.

When talking about the game show, he sheepishly said: “It was humiliating and embarrassing. I lost. Twice. I wasn’t really being sarcastic or joking. 21st Century Fox then offered Selleck a spot in its development program, where he spent almost two years.

“The luckiest thing that happened was that I didn’t get a real job until I was 35,” Selleck imparted to AARP. “At the point when I was 25, I looked 35 yet sounded 15. There are a ton of generally excellent entertainers who make it as more youthful driving men yet don’t graduate — in light of the fact that the crowd will not acknowledge them as grown up.”

When he was almost ready to give up any idea of pursuing a career as an entertainer, Magnum P.I. came along. He said in a discussion, “I suppose if Magnum hadn’t worked out, I wouldn’t have worked again in this profession.”

Selleck has been a co-star in Blue Bloods since about 2010, as Frank Reagan, the magistrate of the New York City Police Department, in the TV series. The series have confirmed the thirteenth season.

Selleck has performed the majority of the acts himself throughout the course of his long career, but unfortunately, this decision has seriously damaged his physique, leaving it different than before.

“My back’s kind of messed up,” Selleck disclosed.

“When you do stunts in movies—I do a lot of them—you’re taking a risk, but you’re also sitting around a lot. So you might do a fight scene, and then you sit in your chair, and it’s not like you have a personal trainer saying, ‘Okay, we’re ready to go, but Tom needs ten minutes of stretching and warm-up.’”

“And I think the price,” he added, “I see it with peers, I talk to them sometimes. You just see the price of all those stunts. They weren’t that hard, but I think it’s the stop-and-go of all that stuff.”

The performer works on his farm in Ventura, California, to stay in shape. He also has a great deal of enthusiasm for horses, which he has shared with his daughter.

Selleck and his wife Jillie Mack have been married for a huge amount of time. The fact that he mostly prioritizes his family makes their relationship one of the most strongly rooted in Hollywood.

Selleck said in 2012, “I quit Magnum to have a family.”

“It took a long time to get off the train, but I try very hard to have balance, and this ranch has helped me do that.”

“We both thought it was the best environment for Hannah to grow up,” his wife added.

We send our best wishes to Tom Selleck.
