On Thursday, while paying a moving tribute to a significant figure in his life, Al Roker broke heartbreaking news to his audience.
After shockingly deciding to leave Twitter this week, the Today host paid tribute to the late Philadelphia producer, arranger, and songwriter Thom Bell, who was born in Jamaica and died at age 79, on Instagram.
Al wrote: “Thom Bell, a legendary Philadelphia producer, passed away at the age of 79. My life’s soundtrack was his music.”.
He was a member of the bands The Spinners, The O’Jays, The Delfonics, The Stylistics, and Elton John’s renowned Philadelphia Sound Of Philadelphia, which included other musicians.
We appreciate the gift, please”.
The crying-face and praying-hand emojis were frequently used by Al’s admirers to express their sorrow in the comments section alongside their tributes to the late performer.
One of them commented, “Such tragic loss of a tremendous skill that was able to capture and create a sound like no other”.
One more remarked, “Enjoy your peace.”. Your music is fantastic, and we really like it.
Good news despite the bad news. I hope you’re feeling better and getting stronger, because you make the @todayshow what it is”.
Al has had an awful few weeks in addition to recovering from blood clots in his lungs. A short time after being released from the hospital, he also received the heartbreaking news that his sister Patricia had died unexpectedly.
Al Roker suffered a tragic loss while battling the illness himself.
The Today show host, who has been with the program for over 25 years, spent more than two weeks in the hospital following Thanksgiving due to blood clots.
Al provided viewers last week with a home update.
Al’s involvement in the program has ended.
“It was difficult.”
My opinions won’t be kept to myself.
Although I’ve had many surgeries, this one was the most difficult”.
There are many people and things for which I am grateful, he continued. “You are deeply grateful for the subsequent outpouring of prayers and thanks”.
