The music mogul had a health issue while filming.
It surprised people that Simon Cowell, 63, seemed more reserved than usual during season 18 of American Idol. Cowell has long been known for his incisive remarks and biting tongue.
Simon stayed quiet, but not out of disinterest, as co-stars Heidi Klum, Sofia Vergara, and Howie Mandel talked about auditions.
Due to a medical issue, Simon hasn’t been speaking much during season 18 of AGT. He explained this in an interview with USA Today.
In his words, “I think what happened was that the acid from my stomach literally burned my vocal cords.”. I could see how severely burned my nose and throat were when the doctor came over and put a camera up them.
”.
I literally couldn’t talk because I wanted to talk about auditions so much. “We attempted to write things. I once used an iPad tablet to keep track of things I’d previously mentioned. I tried to use Sofa to translate for me, but she deliberately said the wrong things.
Thus, chaos reigned.
”.
Simon asserted that going a week without speaking during the auditions gave him a fresh outlook.
“I had to remain silent for roughly seven days, so all I could do was hear what the other judges had to say. ”.
We probably disagreed more this year, but in a good way.
“And it was very interesting because they’ve all gained enough confidence to have their preferences now.”.
You can’t be an expert on everything when judging this show due to the variety of acts. ”.
In May, Simon, who has recently dealt with a number of health issues, thought back on how the incidents—which included two bike accidents—had impacted his life.
On The Today Show, he admitted, “It wasn’t great; it was painful, but I wasn’t in great shape before the accident. And it wasn’t until I had to do all the stuff afterwards that I realized how unfit I was. ”.
Simon continued, “And I was like, ‘My God!’ Things like that, I believe happen for a reason. I have no plans to stop riding my bike anytime soon.
He said, much to the delight of his fellow actors, “I’m still going to stay on my bike, I’m obsessed with these things.”.
