Lew Palter, who is best known for playing Isidor Straus in the timeless movie “Titanic,” passed away at age 94. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Palter’s daughter claimed that he passed away from lung cancer.
Palter’s outstanding performance in “Titanic” left an imprint, but teaching was his true calling. Palter made it his life’s work to train aspiring actors at the renowned CalArts School of Theater following his iconic on-screen encounter with his fictional wife, in which they suffered a tragic and horrifying end.
When the news of his passing recently reached a wider audience, CalArts quickly released a statement on its Instagram account paying tribute to the senior faculty member.
“Lew retired from CalArts in 2013 following a remarkable four-decade career as a director, mentor, and acting instructor. His love of acting was infectious, and he brought a great sense of attention, empathy, intelligence, and humor to every scene, play, and class. ”.
Another outstanding performer from the “Titanic” cast left with Palter’s departure. Spicer Lovejoy’s on-screen counterpart, David Warner, passed away in July of last year.
Strange coincidences can occasionally result from the intertwining of histories. Palter passed away just before the Titanic submarine’s tragic explosion, which killed all five aboard while on an expedition to explore the ship’s wreckage, captured the attention of the entire world.
One of those killed was Stockton Rush, CEO of OceanGate, the company in charge of the disastrous operation. It’s interesting to note that Wendy Rush, Stockton’s widow, has a strong affinity for Isidor Straus, the role Palter played.
Wendy Weil Rush, Stockton Rush’s wife and now widow, was identified as the great-great-granddaughter of Isidor and Ida Straus, who perished in the Titanic disaster, by the Straus Historical Society.
One of Isidor and Ida’s three daughters, Minnie was Wendy’s great-grandmother. Minnie married Richard Weil, and one of their offspring is Wendy.
Wendy has not yet spoken in front of the public as she laments the untimely passing of her husband. Unfortunately, the legal repercussions of this tragedy might make her grief worse.
Despite the waivers that the crew members allegedly signed, Wendy, a member of the expedition team and the communications chief for OceanGate, may be subject to legal action from the families of the deceased.
While juggling grief and resolving legal issues, Wendy and everyone else involved encounter a challenge. ”.
