After turning himself in to the New York City district attorney’s office on April 4, Donald Trump was taken into custody. Trump is now facing serious criminal charges for the first time as president in US history as a result of this shocking arrest.
This comes after a grand jury decided on March 30 to indict him. The charges were initially kept under wraps, though. According to Truth Social, in response to the grand jury decision, Trump reportedly said, “This is an attack on our country as we’ve never seen before.”.
The 45th President of the United States predicted his demise in a prior post on his contentious social media platform on March 18, even though his timing was a little off.
A $130,000 hush payment to Stormy Daniels in 2016 is the focus of Trump’s accusations. Daniels said during her sworn testimony that she received the payment in exchange for signing an NDA that prevented her from disclosing her alleged relationship with Trump in 2006, just before the election.
He has vehemently denied the affair and claims that he ordered the payment despite the fact that his attorney, Michael Cohen, gave false testimony against him during his grand jury hearing on March 15. Before entering the courtroom, Trump of course spoke about his arrest.
On April 4, prior to his arraignment hearing, Donald Trump showed up at the district attorney’s office. Before heading inside the courtroom, Trump wrote on Truth Social that the experience was “surreal” and that “WOW, they are going to ARREST ME.”. ‘I can’t believe this is happening in the United States,’ someone exclaimed.
It’s unclear whether Trump will be treated differently given his peculiar arrest circumstances. But just like everyone else, he will have to go through the standard booking process, which includes getting his fingerprints taken.
He was not departing quietly, in the true Trump fashion. Trump sent a fervent rallying cry to his devoted followers on March 18 after announcing his impending detention.
He wrote on Truth Social, “Protest, take back our country!”. Before Trump’s arraignment, Marjorie Taylor Greene and George Santos, two other controversial Republicans, appeared to have gathered with his large contingent of supporters in New York City’s streets.
As the subject of numerous ongoing criminal investigations, including one for inciting violence during the January 6 Capitol riots, these accusations are merely the tip of the iceberg in the former president’s laundry list of issues.
