Everyone who has finally completed their education looks forward to graduation. To commemorate a person’s accomplishment, family and friends come together. However, the successes that this mother-daughter team had achieved together increased their happiness.
East Carolina University awarded nursing degrees to a mother and a daughter from the same family. The institution claims that this is the first time anything similar has occurred.
They thought we were sisters at first, and I had to explain that I was the mother and that we were coworkers, according to Jessica Van Wagenen”.
In order to raise her daughters, Van Wagenen, a retired former marine, allegedly postponed her goals. But now, as luck would have it, she and her daughter both started working again toward those goals.
The mother said, “I always thought the kids needed some sort of stability.”. “Their dad was kind of in and out all the time, and we were constantly packing and moving. Thus, I decided against attending college in order to give the kids the most stability at home that I could”.
Keelin Van Wagenen, her daughter, expressed her admiration for her mother for not giving up on her ambitions.
“I tell her every day that I’m proud of her,” the delighted daughter continued, “and she continued to do what she wanted to do.
Both women have already begun their professional lives. Keelin, Jessica’s daughter, is a pediatric nurse at ECU Health while Jessica works as an operating room nurse for Carteret Healthcare.
The shared memories of nursing school were something that both women vowed to always treasure.
I really like it.
To be able to share that with my daughter is wonderful. Jessica laughed and added, “We’ll always have that together”.
It feels revitalizing, in my opinion.
Keelin said proudly, “I went with my mother when others traveled “with their siblings or significant others”.
It’s fun to watch this mother-daughter team work toward their objectives. Come support them as they enter the workforce with us!
