The singer said, “I’m getting too old to work in an environment that isn’t enjoyable and healthy”.
With each passing day, it becomes more and more obvious why Kelly Clarkson chose to move her talk show to New York City.
The singer, 41, explained that she and her kids, including son Remington “Remy” Alexander, 7, and daughter River Rose, 8, needed the change for The Kelly Clarkson Show during an interview with Nancy O’Dell on TalkShopLive on Thursday.
“I’m glad you inquired because I haven’t had many chances to discuss this. I started talking to my team in January. I said, “You guys,” and I started crying because I’ve built a team with such an incredible group of people, she said of the program, which will premiere its fifth season this fall and was recently renewed through 2025.
“We’ve had a lot of success, and I love working with everyone because our relationships are so strong. Clarkson continued, “So I called them to let them know what was going on.”. I have to go to the East Coast, or I won’t be able to continue the show, she said”.
“Covid made the point that it is not good for anyone to be alone and so far away from their family,” she continued. “And my family is from the East Coast; they are from North Carolina. At the time, I had a lot of personal issues to deal with, so I was forced to do it”.
After a little more than seven years of marriage, Clarkson divorced Brandon Blackstock in 2020. Together, they had two children.
A part of Clarkson’s motivation for moving was to avoid working in an “unhealthy” environment, she added, even though she acknowledged that things were still being worked out in the background on an emotional and professional level”.
She declared, “I’m getting too old to work in a place that isn’t happy and healthy”. I didn’t want to do that anymore; I’d had to do that for years in meetings, and occasionally I’d had to deal with people who were really nasty. I briefly switch between focusing on the talk show and other tasks while doing this”.
The talk show’s workplace received attention earlier this month after a Rolling Stone article alleged that the producers “overworked” and “underpaid” the crew, who claimed that “working at the show was traumatizing to their mental health”.
Clarkson responded to the accusations by writing on Instagram: “In my 20 years in the entertainment industry, I’ve always led with my heart and what I felt to be right. I adore the cast and crew of The Kelly Clarkson Show, so to learn that someone feels ignored or insulted there is unacceptable to me”.
“I have always been committed to establishing and upholding a safe and positive environment at The Kelly Clarkson Show, and I will continue to be so. I’m more determined than ever to make sure that both our team moving with us and our new team in New York are the best and kindest in the industry as we get ready to move to the East Coast”.
I, along with the other senior staff members, will receive leadership training for that build. Every business has room for development, particularly in terms of leadership and ensuring that everyone is being or growing into their best selves. The former American Idol contestant said, “To make sure that any idea of poison is eliminated.
