Considering your response in a life-or-death situation is probably something you’ve done a lot of, if you’re anything like me. My best guess is that we all aspire to be the heroic figure who bravely crosses a thin sheet of ice to rescue the stranded dog in the middle of the lake, scales the side of an apartment building to rescue a young child who is dangling from the balcony on the seventh floor, or leaps into a raging fire to save a mother and her young children from a burning building.
Each one of us aspires to think of ourselves as that person. The truth is that we can never predict how we will react until we are suddenly placed in a situation. The good news is that two locomotive drivers in Westchester County, New York, channeled their inner heroes and saved an infant who was about to wander onto a set of moving train tracks.
William Kennedy and Marcus Higgins were reportedly performing their duties as usual when they came across a scene that nearly completely changed their lives.
Kennedy, a locomotive engineer, reportedly observed a young boy dangerously close to the Metro-North Railroad tracks close to Tarrytown, New York, as reported by Facebook and El Diario Nueva York. According to WABC, the boy had strayed onto the rail track and was moving toward the electrified third rail. Kennedy, who is a father himself, asserted that he abruptly entered “daddy mode” and stopped his train, which was traveling at a speed of 70 miles per hour”.
Kennedy stated, “We’ve got to save this kid.
I have four kids, so the moment I realized it was a child, ‘daddy’ kicked in and [I thought], ‘We’ve got to save this kid”.
Marcus Higgins was traveling in the opposite direction on a different train.
The boy discovered on the tracks, Waylon, is autistic and is said to be nonverbal.
The two locomotive engineers tried their best to steer Waylon away as he climbed over them and moved between the rails.
I’m yelling and gesturing for you to go the other way. Then again, Higgins said, you might not be aware of his age. In the end, Wiggins was forced to get off the train, rush to Waylon’s aid, and put the child on another train to take him to a station. Aridia Bruno DeSosa, the mother of the toddler, claimed that her son had fallen over a wall and ended up by the railroad tracks. Wiggins and Kennedy’s rescue was described by her as “a miracle from God. ”. Waylon reportedly made it out of the situation with only a hand splinter as a souvenir.
According to Pix11, heroes Shawn Loughran, William Kennedy, Marcus Higgins, Max Chong, and Christopher Fraina were recognized by the MTA. On April 26, 2023, El Diario New York published this.
Praise God for these two men, who moved swiftly when called upon. I can’t know what Waylon’s mother is feeling, I’m just a parent. Please post a link to this article on Facebook if you’d like to join in the congratulations.
