It’s very upsetting to see a loved one struggle with something that used to bring them joy.
Rarely are we able to help our friends and family members regain their passions or businesses because they can both drastically decline.
The tale of this young girl and her close relationship with her struggling father, however, does not have a conventional ending.
Giselle Aviles, a 21-year-old from Texas, is appreciative of the work her father put into creating his business. Elias, her father, has long experience in the food industry and even co-owned a restaurant with other family members.
The Aviles family lost their physical restaurant when the economy crashed in 2008, but Elias made the decision to start a Mexican street taco truck and carry on the family tradition. The truck operated reasonably well for a while.
Giselle’s concerns first surfaced more recently after she learned that her hard-working father’s truck was not operating at peak efficiency. He frequently claimed to have slow days and make only $20 to $60.
However, a specific day gave rise to the tweet that essentially changed everything. According to the NY Post, Elias had a busy and demanding day of work that day, and all for only $6.
Giselle recalled that I said, “Nothing hurts,” when he told me the cost was $6.
She tweeted her father a request and added the following:
Hey, Twitter! My dad’s taco truck business is struggling; today he only made $6. Normally, I wouldn’t act in this manner. I’d appreciate it if you could retweet it”.
The tweet was accompanied by a picture of the truck, which had “Taqueria El Torito” written on the side of it. The location tag for Humble, Texas, was also added by her.
“When he said $6, I thought he was kidding,” she told CNN. As a result, I reasoned, “Well, we have nothing to lose,” and chose that day to tweet.
The tweet quickly became very popular and profitable thanks to the numerous retweets it received. When the truck was reopened, Giselle advised her father to get the truck ready for an increase in client traffic because she anticipated that he would get help from others.
But Giselle’s father couldn’t have predicted the response he received because he didn’t know how to use the internet.
Due to the overwhelming number of new customers, the food truck had to close twice—once for restocking and again when they ran out of food. Elias even asked Giselle to help him at the truck so he could follow orders.
Giselle claimed they could serve more than 100 customers that day before closing an hour early. Giselle returned to the starting point to express her sincere gratitude to everyone who helped as the hectic days carried on throughout the week.
Giselle tweeted, “Hello everyone! We are so grateful for all of the support and response we have received. Please be patient with us as we try to get things out as quickly as we can, as there is currently only one person working full-time (my dad! ), and we are amazed at what social media is capable of,” she continued.
She tweeted that because business was booming, they were looking to hire more employees.
According to Giselle, “My dad was shocked because he didn’t anticipate a turnaround to happen so quickly. There were a ton of people”.
I was just trying to help him, and it feels great,” she said. Just being able to act in a way that will boost his reputation and bring him business right away”.
