Denzel Washington revealed in a recent interview that he turned down a significant role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that could have earned him more than $30 million. His defense was his opposition to what he saw as a “woke” theme. Washington stated that he did not find the idea of portraying a significant character whose hidden homosexuality will eventually come to light appealing.
Despite Marvel’s denials that Thanos or Groot were the characters given to Washington, some fans have speculated that since Washington didn’t elaborate on the persona he was given, it might have been one of them.
Given the wide range of characters that Marvel represents, it is challenging to identify the particular superhero he was asked to portray. Some fans have even suggested that Agent Carter and Black Widow might be in a romantic relationship.
Washington has been upfront about his hesitation to participate in stories he deems to be “woke.”. He believes that using his acting abilities in films with an award-winning potential, such as “Remember the Titans,” is a better use of his talents.
Even though Washington is the recipient of 11 Black Oscars, she has chosen not to accept them. Instead, his refrigerator’s top is prominently adorned with the three Oscars that he usually wears.
