Since leaving the entertainment industry 15 years ago, Ryu Athit, also known as Arthit Taongsawatrat, has largely remained the same.
In the 1990s, the former performer, who entered the entertainment industry at age 14, served as the spokesperson for Thai idol plays. Because he was well-liked by consumers and advertisers, he advertised a variety of goods.
Unfortunately, Ryu had mental health issues and was identified as having bipolar disorder. He was described as “insane and mentally unsound” in reports”.
Before taking a break from acting to seek treatment, Ryu made her last on-screen appearance in the 2005 romantic comedy drama Theptida Long Ngan.
According to reports, he visited hospitals frequently for ten years, and at one point, he turned to Buddhism to help him cope with his illness.
During that time, two marriages ended for Ryu as well.
He has a daughter, Link, 15, from his second marriage in addition to two sons, Pham, 23, and Phao, 22, from his first marriage.
They all appear to get along poorly, and rumor has it that Ryu has stopped talking to his children.
Ryu had recently been found to have lost his home and was now surviving by selling used goods at a roadside flea market.
The newspaper ran pictures of Ryu at his makeshift stand and a story claiming that Ryu had spent all of the money he had earned as a child and was forced to file for bankruptcy.
He admitted that he currently sleeps next to the road and has to get his water for washing from an outdoor faucet.
