Mama June Opens Up About Daughter Anna’s Terminal Cancer Battle: ‘Cherishing Every Moment’

Anna “Chickadee” Cardwell’s stage IV cancer is terminal, according to Mama June Shannon.

Shannon, 43, stated to Entertainment Tonight on July 12 that “she’s not going into remission.”. We’ve all come to terms with that, so I just tell people to take each day as it comes because you never know. ”.

Cardwell, 28, has been managing the diagnosis “pretty well,” Shannon said, adding that her eldest daughter is still able to “take the kids to and from places, go to the grocery store, and drive herself.”.
”.

According to Shannon, Cardwell’s terminal diagnosis has been an “emotional rollercoaster” for her as a mother.
Mentally, it’s constantly on my mind, the Mama June: From Not to Hot actor admitted to the publication. (Shannon is also the mother of Jessica, 26, Lauryn, 23, and Alana, 17-year-old daughters. ).

Cardwell was found to have stage IV adrenal carcinoma in January after experiencing severe stomach aches, according to news reports that surfaced on March 30. This demonstrates what I mean by the adage that “you never really know what someone is going through at home. No matter how well-known they may be,” Alana stated at the time in her Instagram Story. “I may be well-known, but my family and I still experience typical adversity; please understand this as soon as possible.
”.

After four cycles of chemotherapy, Shannon continued by pointing out that Cardwell should participate in clinical trials or receive immune therapy as her next steps. She did add, though, that Cardwell isn’t sure if she wants to pursue additional therapy.

It is absurd to think that she won’t be around in five years, but Shannon expressed the hope that she will battle for ten or twenty years.

In May, Shannon and her husband, Justin Stroud, revealed in an exclusive interview with Us Weekly that Anna’s eldest child, Kaitlyn, 10, had grown “more clingy” as a result of her mother’s cancer battle. However, Kylee, her youngest child, who is 7 years old, is “still just too young to really understand what’s going on.”. (Anna and Michael Cardwell, her ex-husband, are parents to two children. ).

Shannon went on to say that during the trying time, their family was not getting much assistance from relatives. “The only people here are me, Justin, Pumpkin [Lauryn], Alana, her boyfriend [Eldridge Toney], and Jessica,” the Here Comes Honey Boo Boo alum told Us. Nobody else is with Anna, no one else visits her home, and no one else receives treatment.
”.

Cardwell has occasionally updated her fans on social media during her cancer journey. On May 10, she captioned a photo of herself and Toney with the phrase “Well going on to round 3 of chemo.”. “This [was] yesterday; it was [a] pretty good day, but did get a little, and Cracker Barrel was good going down but not up but over all [sic] it’s going good and chemo is working we come to find so things are looking good.”. ”.

Later that month, she used Facebook to mark Kaitlyn’s completion of elementary school. Photos and videos of the ceremony from May 23 were captioned by Anna with the phrase “I am one proud mama right now.”. Additionally, I find it unbelievable that a second grader and a middle schooler will wait for me while I sob uncontrollably. I am incredibly proud of my daughters and all they have accomplished. ”.
