In your mind’s eye, if I ask you to visualize a bear, you probably see a majestic animal draped in fur that dwarfs most other carnivores on the planet. Introducing Eve. At first, when they found her, her rescuers weren’t even certain that she was a bear. Eve was hairless, pink, covered in scabs, and without her dignity; it was hard to tell that she was one of the proudest animals on the planet.
She was rescued from Placer County, California, on Christmas Eve of 2017 by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, which marked the start of her arduous recovery process.

The young black bear, named “Eve” after the day she was discovered, was given a spot at The Fund for Animals Wildlife Center. They discovered she had severe mange and was smaller than they had anticipated because her lack of food had stunted her growth.
Fortunately for Eve, the lice that were feeding on her skin were thoroughly treated, and regular baths started to heal her coat. By April, about four months later, her progress wasn’t what the staff had anticipated. The center posted on Facebook, saying: “We did see fur regrowth on portions of her body during her last exam, but it is very sparse overall. She does still have some crustiness around her upper thoracic and cervical spines, and oddly, that’s also where a lot of her fur is growing. She frequently exits the water as her caregivers approach, drenching the area with her splashing and playing. One of her caregivers said, “She has taken to her pools.”.
Even though Eve continued to battle skin infections and needed medication, the mange had almost completely disappeared by July. There is no question that we all want her to be healthy and have the chance to live a good quality of life, the center continued. “Only time will be able to tell us what tomorrow holds, but for now, we are still fervently hoping that she will be able to return to the wild someday. ”.

As a result of Eve’s lack of fur potentially endangering her life, the Wildfire Center ultimately decided that it was best for her to remain a captive. It was impossible to release her because of this and the wildfires that ravaged California at the end of last year. But things weren’t all bad for Eve. To make sure she has her forever home, the center has started to raise money. They declared, “We have always been dedicated to taking care of Eve, and we have always put her best interests first — just as we do now. Eve is currently being prepared for a Forever Home at Cleveland Amory Black Beauty Ranch in Texas as part of our ongoing commitment to the cause.
“Eve will stay in our care while we work together to raise money for a cutting-edge, sizable habitat that Eve can call home forever. Bears aren’t cheap house-guests; they’ll literally eat you out of house and home!:-) We know it won’t be simple or cheap because it already costs us close to $500 every week just to care for her here.
