Shala Holm was born in Buffalo, Minnesota. Shala found a large snapping turtle months ago, but it wasn’t until then that her photo gained widespread attention.

The turtle’s giant claws are reaching into a fish net as its head, which resembles Godzilla, leads the way. The image immediately makes it clear how much larger this turtle is than the others.
Shala spent her family’s summer vacation at Niemeyer’s Rugged River Resort in the vicinity of Brainerd. When they first saw the animal, Holm and her daughter were in a tandem kayak.
My daughter told me to be quiet all of a sudden. I’m aware of my breathing, Holm recalled.
When Holm turned to look for something more recognizable on the beach, she was startled to see the turtle’s nose pointing in the direction of a fish basket that hung from their kayak.
She retorted, “He kind of clawed onto it.”. We were totally taken aback by his size”.
Holm shook the basket, scaring the turtle away, and it swam away.
The mother and daughter returned the following day in their kayak to see if they could locate it once more so they could snap a photo. As they awaited the arrival of the turtle, they passed the time by fishing.
Being so close to the water is what Holm finds most enjoyable about being in a kayak. We were close together as a result.
Despite their uncertainty about the size of the reptile in the water, the mother and daughter were pleasantly surprised to learn that it was a snapping turtle and that its legs were about the size of Holm’s wrists.
Adult snapping turtles typically range in size from 8 to 14 inches and weigh between 10 and 35 pounds, according to the state Department of Natural Resources. It weighed an impressive 65 pounds and was the biggest turtle ever discovered.
Shala emailed the picture to the DNR so they could request more details. The turtle’s estimated age ranged from 15 to 30 years old.
The resort’s owners chose to post Shala’s photo on their Facebook page, where it quickly gained popularity. Corby and Sheila Niemeyer, the resort’s owners, have observed as the post has racked up tens of thousands of shares and close to a thousand comments. Inquiries about the story have been made to Sheila by media organizations.

They prefer the water because they feel more secure there, and they frequently try to appear more terrifying on land because they feel more vulnerable there. They might fight back if they feel threatened, but they never do.
Hoaglund asserts that their only goal is to remain undetected and that, given the slightest opportunity, they will hide and run away.
The first person to see the enormous turtle, Holm, hasn’t shown any signs of anxiety. She even said she intended to go back to the resort to visit her old friend.
