After receiving only seven days’ notice to vacate their rental home, Amy and Joshua, a young couple in their 20s with three children and one on the way, are on the verge of becoming homeless.
Since they rely on government assistance, they have been unable to make their rent payments.
They are still deciding where they will live after their current residence is no longer an option due to their impending eviction.
Amy and her partner were in need of housing assistance but none of their relatives could help. The only relative who made an effort to assist was an uncle from Somerset.
In contrast, the housing authority threatened to evict them if they refused a proposal that would separate their family members.
Because they had no other choices, the pair felt helpless and frightened.
It is challenging to know what to do because Barnsley Council must convey consistent messages to Joshua and his family.
Joshua and Victoria Robertshaw have shared a home for a very long time, but Joshua’s name was not on the tenancy agreement. There was only Victoria’s name listed. COVID-19 caused her death in August 2020 at the age of 45.
The council makes different decisions, which puts Joshua and his family in an impossible situation. Joshua is obstinate because he refuses to split up his family as a result of their other decisions.
The people residing in a specific home were required to leave within seven days after the judge issued an outright possession order.
A spokeswoman for Sanctuary Housing said that although it took some time, the decision was finally made because of the growing amount of unpaid rent that had accumulated.
For months, the tenants had been residing in the home without making rent. Despite all efforts to resolve the issue amicably, nothing has changed.
In order to free up space for a family on the waiting list, Barnsley Council has been collaborating with the parties concerned to find the residents a new home as soon as possible.
In a discussion about the situation, Jenny Platts, the Barnsley counselor in charge of the case, mentioned that the housing department had offered the couple guidance and assistance regarding potential alternatives.
They are also making every effort to make it simple to find suitable hotels quickly.
